Working with complexity

Square Circle understands the dynamic context of development. We take a holistic approach to institutional strengthening and capacity development in complex environments. Our approach combines academic theory and rigour with a deep understanding of the practical complexities of change. Working together with clients, we facilitate inclusive processes for generating a thorough understanding of an organisation’s current capacities, challenges, and opportunities. Insights are gained through an exploration of past organisational development, the realities of current needs and challenges, as well as goals for the future.

Designing roadmaps for change

We work with organisations to develop strategic roadmaps – innovative knowledge products that tell the story of the actions and processes that will guide change and enable the organisation to realise relevant visions. Our processes facilitate meaningful participation and engagement of our clients and their stakeholders, promoting the inclusion of multiple perspectives and an increase in trust and buy-in.

Developing sustainable organisational capacity

We work with our clients to design and implement targeted initiatives, including capacity development programs, policy reforms, and systems strengthening. Our work promotes the development of effective leaders; highly functioning teams; and efficient organisational policies, procedures, and workflows. We also support our clients and the organisations we work with to review and adapt their strategies and initiatives, to foster continuous improvement and alignment with their evolving contexts.

Capacity needs assessments

We facilitate a range of participatory and inclusive needs assessments, stakeholder consultations, critical reviews, and sense-making activities.

Institutional analysis and strengthening

We support clients to create strategic roadmaps and plans that reflect where they have come from, where they are now, and what they need to do to get where they want to go.

Training and workshops

We provide custom programming across a range of areas including inclusive development; monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL); project management; training of trainers (ToT); and Australia Awards activities across the full lifecycle of the Australia Awards Scholarships.

Organisational development

We work with government agencies to strengthen key workflows and improve service delivery in complex environments.

Leadership development

We deliver developmental leadership and team-building programs across public, private, and civil sectors – for enabling established and emerging leaders, and promoting effective, highly functional teams.
